I used mediatemple and followed the mediatemple PR guys comment and opened a few tickets. They gave canned responses and were completely unhelpful. They basically told me the problems were all with my websites and not on their end. Apparently vanilla wordpress installations with no addons and no content are too much for their servers to handle. They also threw in a few sales pitches about upgrading to their higher cost services. Looking for alternatives now.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I'd be more than happy to take a look at things if you still have an account with us. If you could open up a support request with some of the issues you are experiencing, we can try to see why these things are happening.

Hey Tom,

Apologies for the errors - I was rushing down notes! Of course it was Apache I was referring to, not MySQL. Will make the corrections to the post now ;)

Those shoes are awesome by the way.

Hey Adam,

I'm glad you liked my talk. Getting back to the UK was awesome, and it was good to meet a bunch of new people.

A couple of corrections which I'm going to blame on my horrible Americanized accent.

I've been in the USA for 2 years now not 5. If it was 5 I'd probably actually be an actual American by now ;-)

Regarding Node.js it probably is faster than MySQL but most importantly it's a lot faster than Apache or IIS (whichever you use). So you can have a single Node.js server which handles hundreds or thousands of requests at the same time. That's something much harder to do on other systems.

If you like the toe shoes they are called Vibram 5 fingers (http://www.vibramfivefingers.com) and they are the most comfortable shoes ever.

Thanks for the write up!
